RETAINING

WALLS

Retaining walls transform challenging slopes and grade changes into features of your yard. Add layers and depth to your outdoors while reclaiming hills into functional spaces. Armour stone, large blocks, gabion walls or interlock wall blocks - we build all types of retaining walls in the Ottawa area.

Why include a retaining wall in your Ottawa yard?

Construction of stone steps leading to the front door of a brick house.
  • If your yard is losing a ton of space to a steep slope a retaining wall is a fantastic way to regain that functional space and even out the landscape.

  • Retaining walls prevent wash out and erosion of steep slopes. Prevent damage to your home and landscape with a properly designed and installed retaining wall.

  • Take advantage of the natural slopes of the yard to add different levels and layers into the landscape by adding retaining walls. This lends to a far more interesting yard and working with the natural slopes can result in overall savings as well.

  • Elevate your garden beds with retaining walls to add even more layering to the landscape. These retaining walls can also help with maintenance by raising the beds and making them more accessible.

  • Have a completely cohesive landscape with matching interlock and stairs made of similar materials. All “interlock stairs” are actually retaining walls built into the shape of stairs.

What we do different:

  • A relief wall is a hidden retaining wall that is tied into the rest of the retaining wall structure. It is used to keep the hydrostatic pressure of the step backfill off the house walls. Failure to build these relief walls can result in rot, mold, brick and foundation issues.

  • There’s more to a retaining wall than just the block. All of our retaining walls have proper weeper drainage, daylighting and backfill. This can lead to higher costs, however it is the ONLY way to ensure the longevity of the retaining wall.

  • Our retaining walls (and backfill aggregates and soils) are always reinforced and and stabilized with proper geogrid installations, further lending to the longevity of the retaining wall.

  • We use our leveling and laser tools to ensure retaining walls meet at the right points and retaining to the right heights.

BUILT TO LAST

Designed and over-engineered to outlast the competition. We build retaining walls to meet or exceed CMHA specifications. When required on larger walls we are able to procure stamped engineer drawings.
